SUMMARY:
HRP‑5P is a fifth‑generation humanoid robot developed by Japan’s AIST to autonomously perform heavy labor in construction, shipbuilding, aircraft assembly, and other hazardous industrial environments.
Standing 182 cm and weighing 101 kg, HRP‑5P features 37 degrees of freedom, high‑power joints, wide‑range articulation, and advanced environmental measurement + object recognition systems.
It is capable of autonomously lifting, carrying, positioning, and fastening 13 kg drywall panels, demonstrating one of the most complex construction tasks ever performed by a humanoid robot.
EDITORIAL:
HRP‑5P represents one of the most serious attempts to build a true industrial‑grade humanoid. Unlike entertainment robots (HRP‑4C) or research walkers (HRP‑2/3/4), HRP‑5P is engineered for strength, autonomy, and reliability.
AIST designed HRP‑5P to address Japan’s severe labor shortages in construction and manufacturing. Its high‑torque motors, multi‑motor joints, and wide‑range articulation allow it to handle large, unwieldy materials that even skilled humans struggle with.
